Media controlled world

Found this quote by Anthony Lawson which I like:

"Personally, I see little hope for a change in the media’s attitude to 9/11, the War in Iraq or the current stand-off with Iran, which is looking more and more dangerous everyday, unless and until those behind the policies currently being pursued by the president of the United States and his administration are brought into the international spotlight, and carefully investigated, and I can see no other entity which has such a stranglehold on U.S. foreign policy than the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) whose policies appear to be putting the wellbeing and security of the fledgling state of Israel before all else. I use the terms ‘wellbeing’ and 'security' only in the short-sighted sense that those who insist on pursuing these policies use them, not because I believe that where those policies are leading could possibly be good for anyone. Currently, these people have Iran in their sights, and they appear to be successfully getting much of the rest of the so-called developed world behind them. Yet, anyone with half a brain cell in reasonable working order must know that the idea of Iran being an immediate threat is manifestly absurd.

Israel already possesses about 200 nuclear weapons, making it highly unlikely that Iran would risk a nuclear exchange with that state, yet the issue, like Saddam’s non-existent weapons of mass destruction, has been blown out of all proportion by the U.S. president, the previous ambassador and the current acting U.S. ambassador to the U.N. backed to the hilt by the American mainstream media, which is almost wholly owned by those who seem to owe at least as much, if not more, allegiance to Israel than they do to their original country of citizenship. And much of the rest of the world’s mainstream media, including the BBC and most of the British press, follows where the American media leads them.

Where it is leading us all, at the moment, is to a place where all of our freedoms will be stripped away, one by precious one.

The mainstream media is a monster, and it is being nourished and protected by those who, for whatever reason, will not tell us the truth about what is really going on in the only world we’ve got. Those who refuse to tell the truth, or insist on ignoring the obvious .... deserve our utmost contempt, and should be peacefully targeted, at every opportunity, with evidence of our displeasure and disgust at what they are doing."

What we are not being told is that the maritime border between Iran and Iraq in the disputed area has never been agreed by the two countries; it remains in dispute, and has done for years. The UK produced maps are not therefore valid at all, let alone accurate. We all stood back as we were led into Iraq, which we all now know was a total disaster. Now we are on our way to the next one, Iran, which the neocons have always made clear was their next target. How can we all be so stupid in believing, AGAIN, what we are being told? Because we believe what our governments tell us through the mainstream media, still, after everything we thought we had learnt in the last few years.

The elephant in the room

When you have made your mind up about something, it's possible you might be wrong. Actually much of what I believe about the world is accumulated stuff picked up from a variety of sources - people, the media, TV, rumour, hearsay, whatever. Does it matter if I don't think again about it? Accepted wisdom is a large part of what we believe. Accepted lies are too. And it is possible to believe something to be true in the face of clear evidence that it is not. Just don't look too closely. We as a country are now involved in two wars, and may be involved in a third which is very likely to escalate into a third world war. These wars have been entered into on the basis of lies concocted by the US government with the help of allies like the UK. The facts were fitted around the policy - they needed to invade Afghanistan and Iraq. We none of us want these wars, but we have no means of bringing the madness to an end. We feel powerless. But the one thing which gave the impetus to all this, which enraged the people so much that we gave our governments carte blanche to go ahead, was the belief that it was a righteous war, a justified response to a terrible act, that of the attacks of September the eleventh. We know this much: that we have been dragged into a disastrous state of affairs that no one agrees is desirable in any way, in the name of "freedom". We know now that it is not a righteous war at all. If it was also a lie that Bin Laden was the guilty party (and the FBI have admitted they have no evidence to this effect), then there is a huge question hanging over all of us. Our responsibility to all those who have died in the last 6 years, in New York, Afghanistan and Iraq, is to be sure that we know the answer to that question. Who was responsible? I suggest, and this is not going against the grain of what we know about our governments, that what we have been given as the answer to this question is a whitewash. Many of us can't really accept that as a possibility. Our unwillingness to address it means we continue on the present path. The question needs an answer.

New Orleans

A year and a half on, still very little done. Do we have the stomach to watch this story, which you won't see on the BBC for instance, although the maker does sometimes work for Newsnight. Not a lot of publicity for such things.

But

Google have not pulled this

It is unfortunately a reality that we will have to come to grips with at some point soon. The UK is going in the same direction as America.

Oops part 2

Now not only do the BBC say they "no longer have the tapes" (are they tapes or digital?) but the website on which they were discovered, and from which I downloaded the relevant bit on Tuesday, has now removed them all, saying that they were a. supposed to be in streaming format, and b. "not yet ready for public viewing". Also that "We are not censoring the files, but we have to make sure that we can offer the information in the correct way to preserve the content".
Google are also pulling the uploads as fast as they are put up!
It also appears that the BBC have to keep 3 copies of everything, according to their own website:
"The following components to be retained:-
· Two broadcast standard copies of all transmitted/published TV, Radio and BBCi output – one to be stored on a separate site as a master
· One browse-quality version for research purposes, to protect the broadcast material
· All supporting metadata to enable research and re-use
· A selection of original (i.e. unedited) material for re-use/re-versioning purposes
· Hardware/software/equipment to enable replay/transfer of the media"
It seems a remote possibility that they could really "no longer have the original tapes of our 9/11 coverage (for reasons of cock-up, not conspiracy)". Until this story broke they were all available.
By the way, why aren't the mainstream media covering this......?
